PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
